The Georgia Association of Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences (GATFACS) is the premier organization for the Hospitality & Tourism, Human Services and Education & Training Career Clusters. GATFACS is a division of the Georgia Association for Career & Technical Education (GACTE) organization. GATFACS encourages and organizes teachers to become a part of a collective voice that can influence issues and policies that impact Family and Consumer Sciences Education. As a member, teachers can network with each other and gain important and helpful tips and techniques as well as participate in professional development at the local, state and national levels.
I began my teaching career at Statesboro High School where I taught the Early Childhood Education pathway and the four-year-old preschool program simultaneously. Over the past 15 years, I have served as an FCCLA adviser, CTAE department head, member of the GATFACS board PR committee, new teacher mentor, member of the leadership team at the school level, CTAE teacher leader team at the district level, and now as president-elect of GATFACS. In my current position as work-based learning coordinator, I have the ability to help all CTAE students find jobs that are related to their pathway. Helping FACS students connect their skills and knowledge from the classroom to a job has been one of the many highlights of my current position.
